Local Singer/Musician Doing Well

Melvin Reid, an Anguillian upcoming, self-made singer and musician, is making a name for himself in the field of entertainment. The entertainer, who performs at public functions, and whose spirited reggae music forms part of local radio programming, is popularly known as “Rude Boy Earthlite XXXX”.

In addition to his CD recordings in Jamaica, he has recently done his second video recording entitled Jah, Thank You This Morning To See The Sunshine. In addition to video recordings in Anguilla at times, his main CDs and videos are usually done at the Bob Marley and Lazene Studios in Jamaica.

“I record reality songs that Jah gives me the inspiration to write,” he said. Among them, including the one mentioned above, are Rastafari, Rise To The Mountain and ‘Taint Every Man That Wears a Pants Call Them A Man. These are some of his new recordings which will be released in January 2011.

“I have been recording since in 1989,” he recalled. “I used to play with Soca Band and when I got my inspiration I started doing Jah’s work. Brother Lee plays my music on Kool FM 103.3 on Saturdays, as well as Iwanda-I on Upbeat Radio and Master Blaster on Rainbow Radio. I also have CDs on sale now. One of them I did in Tuff Town, at Bob Marley’s Studio, in 2005 and another I did in 2009 in St. Maarten.”
The singer, who also performs at the Pumphouse Restaurant, has also found other popular media to expose his talent. “I have my music on the Internet, My Space and Facebook… and I sent a video to Tempo,” he boasted. “I promote myself on the Internet a lot and I get a lot of vibes because people come to look for me at Shoal Bay to buy my music. It is not like time gone by, when there was no Internet. It was a struggle then, but now, with the Internet, you can promote yourself and make things easier for yourself.”

“Rude Boy” is also a traveller. He has been all over the Caribbean and Canada, and now has his eyes set on Africa for a trip there. In addition to his great love for music, he stated: “I love people and I love them most who love me and I respect those who respect me.” The singer/musician is known for his many markings on his vehicle, living premises and clothes. “I mark up because God is talking to me and I do so to explain myself. That is just by blackboard,” he explained. And what about his four xxxxs? Apart from any other definition he may have, they mean “hugs, kisses and love,” he explained.
