Centenarian Passes At 105 Years

The oldest living person in Anguilla died at the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens Home on October 11th. Emily George, known to everyone as Vic or Victoria Charles, was originally from Dominica and lived for many years in Blowing Point.

At 105 years of age, Ms. George lived a full vibrant and active life right up to her passing. Fully mobile and cognizant, she regularly attended mass at the St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. In the company of friends and those close to her, she danced and enjoyed herself at any function she attended.
Never without her rosary beads, she was known for coining the phrase, “Do good, and good will attend you”. Her many apt remarks were only some of the reasons why she became a favorite among patients and staff alike at the Senior Citizens complex she called home since July of 2010. Her meals were specific, “Fish and ground provision”, said Head Nurse Coreen Hodge: “She never drank sodas, only water or juice. Since she was generally healthy she never took any medication - nothing”. When speaking with The Anguillian, the staff at the Home observed: “We could all take a lot from the life Vic lived and, in so doing, increase our own longevity as well”.
