The release stated that in August this year the Government signed an agreement to provide a grant of US$150,000 from its Special Resources Fund for the preparation of the Master Plan.
The rest of the release is as follows: “Halcrow/CHL was selected after a rigorous evaluation process. Initially 36 firms responded to a call issued by the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Tourism for Statements of Capability. Of these, six were invited to submit detailed proposals for the preparation of the plan.
“Halcrow/CHL, which was awarded the highest score by the evaluation committee, is no stranger to Anguilla. Principals of both firms have previously worked on projects in Anguilla. CHL is based in the UK and Halcrow has offices in seventy countries with a track record of some thirty years in the Caribbean region. Collectively the firms have produced tourism Master Plans and tourism micro plans for many countries, including Dominica, Curacao, Saba, Belize and Guyana, as well as for regions in the Philippines and Dubai.
“In his announcement concerning the selection of Halcrow/CHL, the Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Hubert Hughes said: We are extremely pleased to have these firms comprising such a highly-skilled and well-qualified team on board. The group brings to the table a collective century of experience in International and Caribbean tourism, air transport, human resource development, marketing, tourism policy, planning and development. Anguilla is at a very critical stage in its tourism cycle and so the timing of this exercise is very appropriate. The results will undoubtedly benefit Anguilla’s tourism for many years to come.
“The team will prepare the plan over the next seven months under the supervision of Ms Jasmin Garraway, the Tourism Planning and Development Specialist at the Ministry of Finance. A project implementation team of personnel in the tourism unit of the Ministry will provide the necessary support and benefit from the transfer of expertise.
“Tourism stakeholders in general as well as senior technicians in the public service will be called upon to provide inputs to the plan. Oversight for the project will be provided by a Project Steering Committee comprising all Permanent Secretaries, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Governor.”
