Mrs. Lake, through the use of scripture, urged students to invest in their education: “Like the scripture read this morning said, ‘if you (the soil), are going to succeed, let your education (seed), meet you rich and deep so as to better sustain its growth.’ The teachers (sowers) and I will prepare you as best we can, but it is up to you not to be distracted by what is out there”. The Principal warned her new students of the dangers of the ‘thorns’, saying, “Idle chatter, rudeness, failure to complete homework assignments, lack of focus and so forth are the thorns that would affect your learning and that is to your own detriment”.

She then provided an example of the kind of student that is inherently successful. She said, “Good and fertile soil represents those students who come to school with a sense of purpose. These are the students who set goals, have interest in their own development are focused and who are receptive to what the teachers have to say”. She continued: “These are the students who cooperate, demonstrate commitment to their learning, and these are the students who are usually successful”.

There are a number of new teachers joining the faculty at ALHCS Campus A. The Principal introduced them to the students and informed them of their subject areas: Ms. Shorna Richardson, Maths; Ms. Angel Richardson and Ms. Kendisha Hall join the Home and Food Technology Department; Ms. Ashana Desouza, assigned to the Music Department; Mrs. Maria Hughes, to the Business Department; and Mr. Calvin Scarborough, to the Humanities Department. In addition, Ms. Shanika Webster has been transferred from Campus B to Campus A and will be teaching English and Social Studies.

All of the new teachers were welcomed by the student body and faculty.
