CCB’s representative, Transmine Simpson, told the gathering on Saturday, July 10, that since the Bank’s inception it had stayed true to its commitment to provide meaningful participation in the social and economic development of the community it was serving.
She congratulated the young footballers, drawn from the various clubs, for their commendable performances “for the good of the game” which was the rallying theme of the tournament. Miss Simpson was grateful to the parents, guardians and teachers for supporting the players, thus helping to ensure the success of the tournament.

Colin Johnson, Female Football Development Officer, who also chaired the proceedings, thanked Raymond Guishard, President of the Anguilla Football Association, and his executive, for their assistance to female football over the years, thus ensuring the continued involvement of the players and the growth of the sport. He was particularly grateful to CCB for sponsoring the tournament notwithstanding the difficult financial situation. He was pleased that, as a result of the Bank’s sponsorship, the trophies had become bigger and better this year.

“I think I can safely say that all the clubs handled themselves fairly well,” Johnson stated. “In fact, I truly believe that the standard of play in the Female Football League improved greatly over last year. I would, however, like to see a greater improvement in the players’ attitude towards the game, as well as improvement in their discipline on and off the field, because whatever they do, or say, will determine where female football goes in Anguilla.” He took the opportunity to congratulate all the winners in the tournament.

Deputy Director of Sports, Rollins Richardson, thanked the Football Association and CCB on behalf of the Ministry for organising and sponsoring the tournament respectively. He described female football as the leading field sport in Anguilla in that there were five teams involved. He also said that statistics showed that the ten-year-old female football sport had begun to surpass male football which had been played in Anguilla over the past fifty years.
