Ministry of Education Implementing Task Force Recommendations


The following is a press release issued by Mrs. Chanelle Petty-Barrett, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education.


In January 2009, the Ministry of Education convened a Task Force

To conduct an investigation of conditions at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School with a view to making recommendations as to measures that can be taken to reduce incidences of violence at the school and to ensure that it is an environment in which students and staff feel safe.

Based on the recommendations of the Task Force, as published in its Report, the Ministry is of the view that there are a number of measures to be taken that will assist in making the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School a safe learning environment.

The Ministry of Education has established an Implementation Team to ensure that the recommendations of the Task Force are implemented within one year.

The members of the Team are

Dr Brett Hodge - Chairperson, and representative of the Parent Teachers Association

Mrs Yasmini Lloyd - Deputy Principal Pastoral representing ALHCS senior management

Ms Keesha Webster - Representative of the ALHCS Board of Governors

Mrs Michelle Queeley Roberts - Representative of the Anguilla Teachers’ Union

Mrs Jacqueline Jeffrey-Connor - Education Officer, Multi-Professional Support Services

Mr Bernard Wattley - Educator representing the public interest

Sergeant Chrispen Gumbs - Representing the Royal Anguilla Police Force

Ms Quincia Gumbs - Student representative

The Implementation Team is mandated by the Ministry of Education to

(1) Collaborate with the Ministry and with senior management of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School to develop an action plan for the implementation of the recommendations.
(2) Provide support, guidance and advice to senior management of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School in the implementation of the action plan, including assisting in the review, creation and improvement of policies and procedures at ALHCS.
(3) Monitor the progress of the action plan to ensure the implementation of the recommendations within the specified period.
(4) Where recommendations made are not within the sole purview of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, collaborate with other persons or agencies to ensure the implementation of such recommendations.
(5) Provide monthly reports to the Permanent Secretary, Education on the progress made with regard to the implementation of the recommendations and on incidences of violence at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School.
(6) Upon completion of the Terms of Reference, provide the Permanent Secretary, Education with a final report on the implementation of the recommendations.

The Terms of Reference for this Implementation Team commenced on 15th April 2009 and will end on 15th April 2010.
