Letter To The Editor

Dear Sir,

Somebody arriving on the island and reading your issue of the paper of November 18th could not be faulted for believing that there was an election campaign in progress. It seems like every adversity on the island has become a political football for the AUF and its supporters to kick into the AUM goal!

Perhaps the best assessment of the current state of affairs is offered by Mr. Marcel Fahie in providing his criticism and vicious dislike for the current Chief Minister. I quote from his LIES AND PROPAGANDA SUBSTITUTED FOR TRUTHS AND FACTS:

"It seems that politicians who operate in opposition can make any number of false and even bizarre claims that have no basis in fact against the politicians who form the Government. The claims do not have to be fact-based. The more sensational and exaggerated a claim, the more believable it seems to be in the view of many of us in the Anguillian community. We seem to attribute low and base objectives, greed and selfish motivation to some politicians."

Considering the AUF members now form the Opposition, is he alluding to them in his above description of "politicians who operate in opposition"?

It would appear, after reading an account of the radio address by Othlyn Vanterpool and a response to the same by Haydn Hughes, he may be quite right in his account of how politicians operate in opposition.
Perhaps the Anguillian community can judge for itself whose lies and propaganda are being substituted for whose truths and facts?

Sincerely,

Anguillian Resident.
