Having just come home from our fifteenth year returning to beautiful Anguilla for our winter vacation, I feel compelled to share with you and your readers the extreme disappointment we feel when we observe the lack of upkeep and maintenance of the Public Library.

Dear Sir:

“YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION”

It was not funny or kind for the AUM Government’s side of the House of Assembly to have repeatedly harassed the elected representative for East End, the Honourable Jerome Roberts of the Anguilla Peoples Progressive Party, about crossing the floor during the swearing in function last week.

I am elated at the victory. God works for those who work, wait and have faith.

Re: The Tragedy of Temenos

Credit Suisse, the lead arranger for a syndicate of lenders at the Temenos project, announced last week that it had appointed a receiver to take control of the Temenos project. It should be obvious to all that after almost two years of attempted negotiations with the owner Mr. Sillerman and Flag Luxury Properties, Credit Suisse does not believe that it can strike a deal with Mr. Sillerman and has moved ahead to take back the property in order to sell it to the highest bidder.

THEFT OF ASA EQUIPMENT

As a concerned parent, I would like to draw attention to the fact that every week someone is stealing from the Sailing Association on Sandy Ground. Everything from rudders, drain plugs, tillers and pullies have been taken.

The purpose of the Sailing Association is to teach our children how to sail, and to keep the national sport of Anguilla alive. It costs a great deal of money to replace these items. Please be aware that when you steal from the Sailing Association, you are stealing from the children of Anguilla.

I am obliged to write this letter to the residence of South Hill, North Hill and Sandy Ground, in particular, and the entire residents of Anguilla.

When I returned to the U.K in 1994 after spending almost three years as Principal of ALHCS, I began after a few weeks to work for Watford Borough Council as a Development Worker with special responsibility for developments targeting the African and Caribbean communities. After a few years literally burying myself in my new job, I felt I had the confidence to revisit Anguilla, the land of my birth. I was genuinely touched by the loving welcome I received wherever I went around the island. I remember the first time I visited ALHCS.

Dear Mr. Hodge:

In accordance with your desire to commit yourself to be one of our head leaders in our government, I take time out to thank and encourage you and to say we all stand behind you to make a difference. With the help of the Almighty God we will be conquerors.

PLANNING COMMITTEE CONTRIBUTES
TO EYESORES

I have a serious problem every time I drive on the roads of Anguilla and I think it should be redressed. It is the empty wooden squares from which the Planning Committee recently extracted the various private advertising materials. Now I fully understand the Committee’s point in radio announcements that a number of the signs were erected without planning permission. I am also aware that the owners of the signs may have been requested either to take them down or to apply for permission to have them remain in place.

Why is the Anguilla United Front not the right government for Anguilla?

There is a very simple reason why the Anguilla United Front is not the right government for Anguilla: it is because the AUF assumes, without question (as was apparent from the speech you gave in Valley South on 18th December and as is apparent from your party's propaganda machine), that large scale property development alone is what will bring prosperity and quality of life to the people of Anguilla. Sadly, that is the exact opposite of the truth, but you just don't get it, and if Anguilla returns an AUF government to power at the next election it will look back on the year 2010 as the year in which it made the biggest ever mistake in the history of this country.

The Anguilla United Front's policy priority should be the interests of the people, not a handful of millionaires.
As I have said elsewhere, you may claim, as a party, to be "united to lead" and to "have Anguilla at heart", but that is not the message that came across from your speech to your Valley South supporters on 18th December.
