Proclamation of Her Majesty’s Assent to the Budget

HE The Governor issued a Proclamation on Thursday 31 March signifying that Her Majesty, through the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, had assented to Anguilla's 2011 Appropriation Act which contains the budget for 2011. The Governor also announced that he had assented earlier to an Act introducing the Stabilisation Levy, and to another Act amending the earlier Act after EXCO had decided to recommend an amendment to the House of Assembly.

AUF: STABILISATION LEVY NEEDED MORE CONSULTATION "It’s A Burden To The People Of Anguilla"

The Opposition Anguilla United Party (AUF), which has two seats in the House of Assembly, where it did not support the Stabilisation Levy last week, has maintained its argument that it is an unnecessary burden to the people of the island and will have a destablising effect on the island. Another argument is that there is a need for more public consultation on the Bill as probably up to 90% of the people of Anguilla may not understand the levy.
